Adobe After Effects is the world’s leading software for Motion Graphics, Visual Effects (VFX), and 2.5D Animation.
If Premiere Pro is where you "assemble" a story, After Effects is where you "craft" the impossible assets—like explosions, glowing lightsabers, or complex animated typography.
1. Key Features & 2026 AI Updates
The 2025 and 2026 versions have focused heavily on 3D workflows and AI-driven automation to reduce tedious "pixel pushing."
Roto Brush 3.0: Uses advanced machine learning to isolate subjects (even those with messy hair or motion blur) from their background in minutes—a task that used to take days.
True 3D Workspace: You can now import 3D models (.OBJ, .GLB, .FBX) directly into After Effects. You can light them with environment maps and animate them alongside 2D layers without needing a third-party plugin like Element 3D.
Generative AI (Firefly Integration): Similar to Photoshop, you can now use "Generative Fill" to remove unwanted objects from moving footage or "Generative Expand" to extend the edges of a video frame.
Enhanced Performance: A new high-performance playback engine allows for smoother previews of complex compositions without needing to pre-render every few seconds.
2. After Effects vs. Premiere Pro
This is the most common point of confusion. Here is the breakdown:
| Feature | Premiere Pro | After Effects |
| Primary Use | Editing clips together (The "Story") | Special effects & Graphics (The "Magic") |
| Structure | Track-based: Clips sit side-by-side. | Layer-based: Every item has its own layer. |
| Audio | Strong; full mixing & restoration. | Weak; just for timing/reference. |
| Project Length | Hours (Movies, Documentaries). | Seconds to Minutes (Intros, VFX shots). |
3. Pricing (India - 2026)
After Effects follows the same subscription model as Premiere Pro.
Single App: ~₹1,835 / mo (Annual plan, billed monthly).
Creative Cloud All Apps: ~₹2,714 / mo (First year introductory offer).
Note: If you are serious about video, the All Apps bundle is much better because you will inevitably need Premiere Pro and Media Encoder to finish your AE projects.
Students/Teachers: ~₹799 / mo (First year). This is the absolute best deal available.
4. System Requirements (The "PC Killer")
After Effects is significantly more demanding than Premiere Pro. It relies heavily on RAM and Single-Core CPU speed.
RAM: 16GB (Minimum) | 32GB (Standard) | 64GB+ (Recommended).
AE uses RAM to "cache" your preview. More RAM = longer preview playback.
Processor (CPU): High clock speed is better than more cores. Intel i7/i9 (13th+ Gen) or Apple M2/M3 Pro/Max chips are ideal.
GPU: At least 4GB VRAM. Essential for the new 3D engine and AI features.
Storage: You must have a dedicated SSD for "Disk Cache." Using a slow HDD will make the software feel laggy.
